This is a PHOTOCOPY of a Vintage 1930s pattern to make doll clothes for your Shirley Temple Doll. I have this pattern available in a variety of sizes, so please be sure that you are buying the right one. This auction is for the 25" tall doll. This pattern makes three international costumes: Spanish, Scottish and Austrian. The Spanish senorita costume is comprised of a dress and lace mantilla. The dress has puffed sleeves and a gathered skirt with bold red applique flowers. The skirt, waist and sleeves are accented with contrasting ribbon bands. The costume is finished off with a lace mantilla. The Scottish costume consists of a dress (skirt and blouse), jacket, scarf, hat and purse. The dress looks like a separate skirt and blouse, but they are actually stitched together. The dress features a pleated skirt and puffed short sleeves. The jacket has long inset sleeves. The whole outfit is accented with a purse (sporran), scarf and traditional hat. The Austrian outfit consists of a blouse, bolero, belt, apron, skirt and hat. The costume foundation is a blouse with puffed short sleeves and a gathered skirt. The outfit is accessorized with an apron that is decorated with bias trim and embroidery. The belt is wide in the front and tapers in the back. It is heavily embroidered with flowers and leaves. The bolero's edges are finished with rick rack trim. The hat is a traditional tyrolean and is made from green felt with a feather. Also included but not shown is a combination undergarment. A combination consists of a slip with panties attached at the waist underneath. I include a color printout of the front cover, a black and white copy of the instructions, back cover and the complete pattern. Please email me with any questions that you have.

In the 1930s the country was in the midst of the great depression and morale was low. In 1934 a young girl named Shirley Temple had her first movie role. Audiences loved her and she starred in movie after movie all with happy endings, a much needed diversion from the difficult economic times. The Ideal Toy Company started making Shirley Temple dolls to sell to her young fans. With each movie that Shirley made, a new outfit from the movie was made for sale. In addition, mothers and their daughters could purchase patterns to make clothing for their Shirley Temple dolls themselves. These patterns come from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which just shows the lasting place Shirley Temple has in our hearts.
Due to Shirley's stardom, her dolls became an instant success and were made for many years in a large variety of sizes. Shirley Temple dolls were made in the following sizes: 11", 13", 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", 25", and 27". I have patterns available for most of these sizes.
This pattern was originally created August 30, 1938. The copyright for this pattern has expired and it entered the public domain Jan 1, 1967.
